(He's sprung a leak!)

Today I got a call at work from Johnson.  He said he had to go home because when he went to the bathroom, he realized he had sprung a leak from somewhere in his catheter area.  He said all his pants were wet, and he didn't want to take the bandages off, for fear he had no replacements at work.

So he made a call to the hospital, who told him to come in immediately.  If fluids are leaking from the catheter, that means there is a big chance of bacteria getting into his abdomen through his catheter.  This is BAD!  This is Johnson's lifeline...in a dark abdomen, warm sweet fluid sits there to do it's job to draw out the toxins in his body.  This is the perfect place to breed bacteria!

So off Johnson went to the hospital, and they were then able to see that his catheter had a slice in it up and around the end where a titanium tip was positioned, and what he uses to connect to his cycler to do his dialysis.

They had to cut it shorter past the slit, then add a whole new titanium tip.  Then they injected a litre and a half into his abdomen which contained very powerful antibiotics to kill any possible infection.

They also proceeded to cauterize a piece of skin he had which looked a little inflamed around his opening.  He said that it really hurt!  They also prescribed more oral antibiotics for him to take for the next 5 days, 4 times a day to ensure he doesn't get sick with infection.

When we all got home later, dad was resting comfortably in bed snoring away.  Of course I told the girls that daddy had to go to the hospital today, and he has a small boo boo.  So of course, my baby Taylor runs upstairs to wake her dad.  She carasses his head, and gently calls his name.  Then she asks if he is OK...does your boo boo hurt. And daddy heart melts!  That one is soooo compassionate and genuinely concerned for her dad.  Stephanie is as always just sooooo nervous, that she doesn't ask him anything...actually...she asked him if he knew where the tape was for a project she is doing.  HA HA!!  Reminds me of my brother Johnny when he is scared or nervous.  He has a nervous laugh which seems very inappropriate at the time, but is just his way of being scared and nervous.  Stephanie takes right after him!

So, I'm heading off to bed now, cause I'm soooo tired.  Wish me luck tomorrow as I will do my final blood tests to qualify to give Johnson a kidney.  It's so funny, just tonight we were saying we can't wait for this transplant.  Johnson and I can't wait to eat all of our favorite foods again.  This diet is soooo restricted.  No dairy, absolutely no salt, no nuts, no beans or lentils or brown bread or brown rice and the list goes on and on!  We hate it.  So bye for now everyone!  Have a great nights sleep...I know I will!
